ARE YOU THE VOLUNTEER WE ARE LOOKING FOR?
St Mary’s Church in Wivenhoe is seeking someone to manage the bookings for both our new annexe and the main church. The ability to manage an electronic diary, receive and send emails and respond to prospective hirers is essential. If you have the appropriate administration skills then we would love to hear from you. A role description is available which gives the details of all that is involved. Just email volunteerforstmarys@gmail.com for further information.
THE SALE OF PEWS
I am delighted to report that all of the movable pews have now been sold and safely delivered to their new owners in homes in Wivenhoe. Particular thanks to Dave Whymark for supplying the truck and able bodies to move these large heavy objects – an impossible task without his willing support!
At the beginning of May, Bakers of Danbury the contractors for our nave refurbishment, will begin the dismantling of the fixed pews. They will do this very carefully and ensure that large sections of high quality oak will be released. It is our intention to sell this wood and already there are a number of people who have shown an interest. The wood from the seat section of the pews (measuring approximately 240cm in length and with a 3cm thickness) is being considered for tables and benches for example. There will of course be thinner and shorter pieces available.
The wood will be for sale in church on a ‘first come first served basis’ on Wednesday 5th May, 9am – 12 noon and on Thursday 6th May, 1pm – 4pm. Buyers will be expected to remove their purchases at the point of sale.
If you are interested in acquiring a piece of our history and would like more details, or you are just keen to register an interest, please contact me on this dedicated email address:
