Lammas Day Lunch

Lammas Day, from the Old English “hlaefmaesse” which translates to “loaf mass”, supposedly the day in the early English church when loaves of bread made from the new grain would be consecrated.

For those interested to read more deeply about the origins of Lammas there would be no better guide than the Clerk of Oxford, whose blog discourses on this very topic- to the enlightenment (and probably surprise) of many.

Last year’s celebration included a blessing of the new loaf, that one artfully constructed by the Norwegian Bakers.
Will there be a special loaf again this year?

St Mary’s Away-day

On Saturday 27 April a group of people from St Mary’s spent the best part of the day together at St Andrew’s church in Alresford, to think together about how St Mary’s could develop as a church in the coming years.

We had a fantastic conference leader in Lis McCormick.
The children had their own activity room and joined in with the adults for the winding up session, to tell us about their views of what was important about the church and faith.

Coffee and tea breaks (with cake – of course!) punctuated the animated conversations and the day was marked by positivity and optimism.

Here is a link to a video that was posted on Facebook to give a flavour of the meeting.
All comments made on the day are being collated and a report will follow before long.
