In 1964 the University of Essex was established within St Mary’s parish boundaries and on Sunday 14 September 2014 we’ll celebrate the 50th anniversary of that connection with a Service of Thanksgiving.
The Service starts at 10.30.
The sermon is due to delivered by Rev Julia Murphy, Anglican Chaplain at the University whom many at St Mary’s already know as a regular priest and preacher.
The reading will be given by Prof Jules Pretty, Deputy Vice-Chancellor.
Attendees will include the Vice-Chancellor.
Prof John Dowden, again well-known at St Mary’s as an organist, was the first ever student to enroll at the new University.
John will give an introduction to the history of the University.
Prof. Glyn Stanway will lead the prayers.
Refreshments after the service.
