LEAVING A LEGACY
By leaving St Mary’s a gift in your Will, or in memory of a loved one, you’re helping to sustain an irreplaceable building in the heart of our community for future generations
to enjoy.
Legacy gifts allow us to look past everyday expenditure and support St Mary’s outreach by preserving the building, expanding our programme and supporting the community for the future.
Our vision for the future is currently focused on the Transformation Project which will provide us with upgraded facilities and a new community room available for hiring. Creating additional space, specifically designed to expand St Mary’s outreach, will enable us to enrich people’s lives through worship and a variety of community activities.
Our expanded outreach will only be successful with the continued support and generosity of people like you.
We are grateful for all gifts, large or small. All will go towards sustaining the future of our beautiful church.
Every gift makes a difference.
Rev Erwin Lammens, Rector of St Mary’s
Notes:
How will my legacy be spent?
A gift in your Will, or in memory of a loved one, can make a lasting difference by enabling St Mary’s to achieve something that is beyond the day to day running costs of the church – for example, large maintenance work to the church fabric or community outreach projects.
How will my legacy be recognised?
We are very grateful for any legacy donation and we will strive to provide appropriate recognition of all gifts. Of course we respect your wishes if you would like to remain anonymous.
Can I specify how my legacy will be used?
Yes, you can specify how your money is spent if you wish to. Although our current focus is on raising money towards the Transformation Project, non-specified legacies to St Mary’s will enable our future work as well as our current fundraising goals.
Will my legacy cut my Inheritance Tax bill?
Leaving a part of your entire estate to charity can reduce, and in some situations, eliminate the Inheritance Tax liability.
If you leave something to charity in your Will then it won’t count towards the total value of your estate. This called leaving a ‘charitable legacy’.
You can also cut the Inheritance Tax rate on the rest of your estate from 40% to 36% if you leave at least 10% of your ‘new estate’ to a charity.
