2020 Concert Programme

St Mary's Music Society logo
We had 6 concerts planned for 2020, all in St Mary’s Church, Wivenhoe. In addition, there are other concerts planned by other groups in this year such as the two concerts organised by the Director of Music, Graham Wadley, in aid of the Transformation Appeal; a concert being put on by the Cavendish Consort to mark their 40 years of existence; and a concert being organised by Roman River Music which is planned for Saturday 12th September.
The first of our 6 concerts went ahead on 7th February with the Kingfisher String Quartet. It was a wonderful evening of music and enjoyed by many people too.
Then the Covid-19 virus struck and the UK has since been plunged into lock down because of this pandemic. We have had to postpone the Quattro Amici concert and the following one too, with the Goldcrest Ensemble. Right now, we have no idea when things might return to normal and when we might be able to re-schedule these two concerts. Because of other bookings, it might not be possible to re-schedule them until next year. Watch this space. Let’s hope our other concerts can still go ahead as planned.

St Mary’s Music Society Concerts in 2020

Friday 7th FebruaryThe Kingfisher String Quartet This was a wonderful evening of music with a ‘Spring’ theme starting with Mozart’s String Quartet No.14 in G major, nicknamed ‘Spring’ – the first of six quartets which Mozart composed to dedicate to Haydn. In the second half, they played a mixture of pieces including music from ‘Ladies in Lavender’, the slow movement of the Bach ‘Double Violin Concerto’, pieces by Cole Porter, Nat King Cole and tangos by Gade & Gardel. This all made for a lovely evening of fine music played by some very accomplished musicians.
