And so today we said farewell to John Saxon who had been seconded to St Mary’s during his training for the priesthood. After his soon to happen ordination he will take up a curacy in Saffron Walden and his regular connection with St Mary’s will have come to an end.
John preached the sermon at today’s Easter morning service and a sense of gain and loss accompanied the occasion. Gain, in that for so long we had had the privilege of John’s presence when both as a co-worker and a person he added so much value to St Mary’s and its Sunday Club in particular. Loss, because inevitably that is an emotion felt when a bond grown close is broken.
Nevertheless we feel thankful that a church in Saffron Walden will now benefit from John’s evident qualities and we wish him well in his next posting, God’s grace on his journey and the assurance of our prayers along his way.
Thank you John, for being who you are and for helping us to see what we could be.
