He ran a good race

Mike Warren had written about his motivation to run the Royal Parks Half Marathon.

Over the past year the church has become an important part of my life again and has helped me to find strength and hope when I needed it most. I now feel I want to give something back, so I have decided to run in the half marathon on 9 October and raise money for a project close to my heart: the building of a Community room as an annexe to St Mary’s.

That was yesterday and we were able to follow his progress via an app so at the end of the morning service Erwin could announce that Mike had finished his run just 7 minutes earlier! It had taken him 2 hours 21 minutes to finish the course despite having some knee problems. We heard that he was hobbling a bit at the end but was much cheered hearing about the applause in the church when the news was received.

Mike’s effort has resulted in over £300 through sponsorship, much of which was collected immediately after the service.
THANK YOUS all round!
